The one lie that we must stop telling ourselves

The one lie that we must stop telling ourselves

I don’t know about you but I lie to myself. A lot. I try not! Most of the time it’s just an instinct!

I don’t even realize that I’m doing it!

It’s mostly starts with things that I need to get done.

In my head, it goes something like this, you don’t have to do the dishes tonight! You can do them tomorrow.

You don’t have to worry about eating dessert! You’re going to start that new diet tomorrow, anyways.

It’s already 2p.m. so might as well skip your workout today and get to it tomorrow.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

The biggest lie that we tell ourselves is that we can simply we always have tomorrow!

There’s no need to be super concerned about anything today because we always have tomorrow, which means that we can put everything off! Over and over again!

And don’t worry! I’m counting myself as part of that group!

That was my life for about 27 years! It’s only been recently that I’ve been working on getting the most out of TODAY, not just what I can pawn off on “tomorrow” LOL

Since I’ve started living my life with only having today in mind and not today and tomorrow, I’ve tripled my business growth, lost 13 pounds, my house is actually clean! And just in general am getting things done!

So how do we stop living for tomorrow and start living for today??

1 // Accepting that tomorrow doesn’t exist

All the times that I’ve vowed to myself that I would get to “it” tomorrow could make me a millionaire!

Tomorrow vs today as far as motivation or determination goes is that tomorrow will never come around. You’re only given today and that means that someway somehow you’ll still have to find it within yourself to get your butt in gear!

2 // Just do it

To coin Nike, just start doing! This is the hardest part for me! Because I’m such a perfectionist that I never wanted to do anything that wouldn’t come out the way that I wanted.

Once, I gave up the idea that I can “just do it tomorrow” I reasoned with myself that if even if something didn’t come out the way I wanted then I could learn!

Whatever doesn’t work, I can tweak and fix!

I’ll get better! So I started doing and that has snowballed into awesome things!

I’m obviously not perfect but i am doing and that is so much more important!

3 // Appreciate today

There have been too many days were I’m capable of doing something but chose not to!

Don’t get me wrong! I’m all for relax days and just having a little time out!

It’s not so good when it’s happening everyday.

For a while I had lost sight of how valuable everyday truly is, but not everyone will get another one. And some are incapable of doing exactly what they want, when they want. I don’t want to take for granted the blessings that I have!

4 // Develop a plan

If you have things that you know need to get done whether it’s small things or big dreams. Everything starts with a plan! I love having a daily planner! Setting intentions about what I want to get done and then deciding what time of the day that I want to get it done!

It’s my plan! I’ve even started planning out my entire week on Sunday so I know exactly what needs to get done!

Here is a printable daily planner that you can download to get started!

5 // Try and try again

I won’t lie and say that everything will go your way right away. In fact, it’ll take a lot of practice! And off days! But don’t let that discourage you! You’ll be able to get the most out of everyday if you keep trying!

6 // If it takes less time, get it done

So I’m basically giving it all away with this one! But if a task only takes a few minutes to get done, like filling the dishwasher or making the bed, just do it! Right then when you notice it! Aside from having a to-do list of things that I want cleaned, I pay attention to how long something will take me and I just do it! My kitchen has never been so clean!

I just couldn’t sit back and continue without addressing this lie! We have to let go of this phantom “tomorrow” that we place all our to-dos, goals, and even dreams!

Make the most out your day!

All the best!

I am in love with this post! I can relate to it so much. You are right, we are not guaranteed tomorrow and should make the most of what we have today.
