What is self-care
There has been a lot of talk about self-care lately and I’m loving it! It’s fantastic that mental health is getting a spotlight as of late.
But when we get down to it, what the heck is self-care? I mean is it really just sitting around enjoying spa days and drinking something bubbly?
To answer this question and I’m sorry if this hurts but no. Not at all! Self-care is not an excuse to be lazy or avoid responsibilities! Don’t get them confused!
Self-care, real self-care is about taking the time and filling your cup and taking care of yourself with intention. This might mean doing something that you don’t like, such as doing the dishes, turning your phone off, or even just getting out of bed.
Don’t let that deter you though, just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean that it isn’t good for you! Take for example, cleaning your house, having a clean house has amazing benefits for our minds and hearts but it’s not something that we all truly enjoy LOL I mean who would think about cleaning the house as a first resort to self-care, right?
But there it is!
Self-care as defined by me is the act of taking care of yourself in the most necessary forms but not always your favorite ways.

Why is self-care so important
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again that self-care is not selfish! It’s necessary! For your own personal sanity and for the sanity of others.
So often we find ourselves constantly trying to lift others up and take care of them which leaves us getting emptier and emptier until we might explode in a not so good way (BEEN THERE! IT’S NOT PRETTY) LOL
So in order to continuously fill others up, we have to make sure that we refill our own cups every so often!
Even if it’s only for a few minutes
See, a lot of people feel like their self-care routine has to take an entire evening or even a whole day!
This is simply not true!
We simply have to it seriously and do with intention!
As with everything we do in life, if there’s no intention behind something than is it really worth doing?
Think about it, if we just do something to do it, is that something that is going to add value to our lives or those around us?
Or is it simply taking up space in our lives so we don’t have to focus on it more closely?
