Are you looking around at your life and surprised by what you see?
Is it better than you imagined or a little lackluster?
If it’s the latter, then welcome! If you’ve reached this point in your life than it’s time to do a life audit and get your sh*t together.
Let me be clear that just because our lives don’t look the way that we thought they would doesn’t mean that their bad! Right? There just seems to be something a little off. Just a sort of stumbling around that has got to stop!
Getting your life together…what does that mean? It simply means that there are aspirations that are missing from your life that you would like to see more of! It means that you need to find a point of direction with a goal that you work toward.
I don’t believe that getting your life together fits the same vision. It might mean for some that going to college is the next step or buying a house but having these things does not mean that you have your life together.
Like I said it’s about finding grounding, aspiration, and quality and living up to those everyday!
So how do we get our sh*t together?? There are several different areas that we could look at here but I think that there are 6 key points with a few subpoints!
1 // Start with intention
We can’t just think to ourselves that we’re going to get it together! It doesn’t work like that. There’s no magical push button that will actually whip our butts into shape.
No, it’s up to us. You and me. And it all starts with intention.
And by that I mean, the desire to want to be different and to see our lives different.
To begin each day with the intention to do things differently and have the intention to see it through.
2 // Determine what we want our lives to look like
The next step is to take a serious look at what we want our lives to look and work backwards from there. For me, it’s about finding balance within all areas of my life and to be the kind of person that my dog thinks I am. To achieve admirable traits and to be present and at peace in my everyday life.
3 // Figure out your purpose
This one is a little bit trickier.
Purpose is meaning that we can wake up and live out a purpose that leaves us fulfilled and knowing that we put our best into the day.
Figuring out that purpose can be a kicker though.
I believe that the best way to figure out our purpose is to give it to God. Ask for his guidance in finding purpose.
Here’s a tip!
No matter what God reveals to you, just go with it! Even if you think that it’s completely not for you!
When I was researching for a new career that would let me live my life on my own schedule and be my own boss, God told me to start a blog and I flat out said no.
I said there’s no way that I’m going to be able to write stuff that people are going to be interested in! There’s just no way!
It took me 6 months to start my first blog. 6 MONTHS! And even then I was very reluctant to the idea and I didn’t put my very best into my first blog thus it failed.
After that I told God that there was some kind of mistake and blogging wasn’t for me.
I started to pray again and again blogging was laid on my heart and another 4 months went by without me acting on it.
Finally, I trusted God and started a blog, this blog.
I should have trusted God sooner! Blogging has been an incredible journey for me and it’s just getting started! I pray everyday that God would help me to make sure that this blog is a great platform for his Glory and a fulfilling career for me.
When you trust God and let him lead your life, I promise you that He will make it even better than your wildest dreams! And the best part?
There’s peace. I don’t know everything that is going to happen but I’m not worried because I know that this is God’s plan for me. How can I be worried when the being that created all the universe is taking care of this as well? He’s not gonna let me fall on my face when it’s His plan! And He won’t let you either!
4 // Take stock of your current life
What is in your life that doesn’t align with what your ideal lifestyle?
Too much negativity? Or maybe unwise spending?
Wasting the day sleeping?
Find those things that aren’t purposeful or productive and ditch em!
- Reduce clutter
You’ve probably heard me talk about it before but getting rid of clutter is actually great for your mental health! It’s actually being proven that clutter leads to a more stressful home life and can lead to procrastination! The New York Times put together this great study that showcases all this stuff!
So first thing is clear out the clutter around your home and your car! Check out and see how your life changes just from that.
- Cut out toxicity
Sounds pretty simple, right? Well we all know that it’s anything but!
Part of taking stalk of our lives is cutting out the things that aren’t doing us any good!
Sleeping too late?
Eating only junk food?
Drinking too much?
Hanging out with people who don’t encourage our desire to get our sh*t together?
Even working too much?
Once you figure out these toxin things in your life it’s time to replace then with positive things that will help get our sh*t together
5 // Begin work on ourselves
Part of having our sh*t together is knowing who we are and making sure that we’re taking care of ourselves. This includes:
Make sure that you’re taking time for yourself and getting to know who you are! You can’t fill any other cups if your own is always empty. This means that we’re taking care of our bodies and mind! It’s not an excuse to have bubble baths every night.
- Mental and physical health such as:
- Reading more
- Watching less TV
- Getting regular exercise
- Trying something new
These are important attributes to have in order to be the best person that we can possibly be!
- Be more put together in appearance
It’s really amazing how different we feel when we put just a little bit of effort into how we look. Our confidence goes up, self-respect goes up, and just the feeling that we can do anything that comes in our way goes up!
Now I’m not saying that we have to be dressed to the nines every second of everyday!
There are just a couple key elements that help to make sure that we can at least appear more together everyday.
Take a shower, brush your teeth and hair, and deodorant. If nothing else happens at least you know that you don’t smell bad!
- Personal uniform
Having a bunch of items of clothing similar to each other might sound a little weird but I believe that it’s better to have pieces that you know you will look in and be comfortable in!
I’m all about experimenting but do you really want to experiment too much when you’re trying to rush together and are feeling bloated?
Not to mention! Think about how the time you’ll save in the morning by having an idea of what you’ll be wearing!
One last thing that always helps me feel together is having one or two things done that help me FEEL together!
It’s a signature!
For me, it’s always been having a little mascara on! If I get that one thing done then I’ll feel more like myself and feel a little bit more put together.
Maybe it could be makeup or maybe a piece of jewelry? Or something else!
6 // Establishing routines
One of the best ways to get your life together is to set up new routines and schedules that will fill our time productively! Routines for the following!
For example, having a set morning routine will have a huge impact for your whole day!
And having routines will help make sure that we don’t miss anything important.
6 ways that you can get your life together! It won’t happen overnight but it will happen! It just depends on you and how much you want to see your life change! It’s okay to be afraid just don’t let that hold you back! Remember that personal growth happens outside of our comfort zones.
Now go out and get your sh*t together! Leave me a comment below letting me know how you’ll get started!
All the best,
