Alright, I feel that if you’re into self care AT ALL!
Then you’ll have at least seen hygge while scrolling down Pinterest.
Hygge is basically my spirit animal!
Hygge which is pronounced hoo-gah I believe! I’ve seen different variations throughout the internet.
The Danes are some sort of self care geniuses! Because they’re the ones that we get hygge from. And it’s the ancient art of hygge that we get all the calm and cuddly forms of self care.
Is there something better? LOL
Hygge is known for being all about warmth and coziness!
- Oversized sweaters
- Huge blankets
- Hot beverages
HEAVEN! It all sounds like heaven!
But is that all that hygge is?
This has been my current obsession! Especially with the colder months on their way.
According to HGTV, hygge is all about finding joy in the everyday moments.
The danes use this as a way to enjoy the winter seasons instead of just trying to rush through winter.
I love that it’s all about being present and cozy!
Life is not about the big moments but the small moments that you make feel big.
So how do you live hygge?
Here are 8 key elements to living hygge!
1 // Being present
Getting off your phone and embracing the moment around you!
2 // Take joy in the little things
So many times we’re so focused on the big upcoming moments of life that we forget about the magic that happens in the ordinary!
Like I love my warm coffee in the morning and the good morning hugs that I get from my little daycare kids!
3 // Learning how to unplug
Getting over the addiction to smartphones! And following the above points!
4 // Practicing minimalism
Avoiding the overwhelming hubbub of collecting more stuff just to fill space!
I’m so guilty of this! I’ve had stuff that I don’t love simply because it was a good price and would fit that one weird space on the wall.
Hygge minimalism is all about surrounding yourself with things that you love and that bring you warmth and happiness!
5 // Bringing warmth and coziness into your home
Home and hygge is like this = comfortable sanctuary.
Fill your house with homey smells, big comfy blankets, and good cooking.

6 // Spending time with loved ones
Most important part of Hygge is the people! The people that you love to be around in your life!
Those same people that will encourage you and support you. The same people that you trust to give you sound advice and eat the apple pie at dinner even if you aren’t a great baker.
People who will always have your back and vice versa!
The people that are your people and not take for granted.
7 // Relaxing
Take time to unwind from the day, practice self care, and enjoy the slow moments.
8 // All the cozy things
Seriously! This is the best excuse to go and buy everything cozy and warm! Lots of candles, books, movies, warm drinks, family time, blankets!
Just anything that you can think of to be warm and comfortable!
My favorites are of course, books! Candles, blankets, puppy cuddles, and hot chocolate!
Why I love Hygge
I am loving everything hygge right now! Embracing this way of life just reminds how important it is to live for the day that you’re in instead of waiting for the next one to come along.
Now c’mon! Name something that you think would go so great with the Hygge lifestyle down below! For me, and besides books I would have to say getting off my phone!
Your turn! Go!
