Hello Hello! Welcome to the December 2018 TLM blogging report!
I can’t believe that January is here!!
How was your December?? Good I hope! Full of joy and laughter cause I mean it was Christmas and who doesn’t like Christmas??
As 2018 is coming to a close and we all begin to reflect on the year, what do you think? How was 2018 for you??
Mine was a bit of whirlwind!
It was the first full year of being a new homeowner.
Dustin left his job to pursue a better future.
I was let go of my job that I had held for nearly 3 years (for no reason mind you and I’m joking LOL they really didn’t give me a reason)
I dived headfirst into blogging to turn it into a full time income.
My family welcomed a new little one (YAY for cousins making cute little babies!! Don’t get excited about me having babies! That’s not happening for a while! 😉 )
Our relationship (mine and Dustin’s) was extremely tested.
I leaned back onto my faith heavily for the first time in a long while (He works all things for his good)
2018 really was definitely one for the books. Not because of anything good but because it was one of the most trying! Dustin and I both learned about each other and it did bring us closer.
I learned a lot about my relationship with God. I had strayed away for a while but he finds the craziest ways to bring us back to him. He’s been teaching me to lean more on him and to trust the promises that he gives me.
One thing is for sure, 2018 gave us all kinds of lessons to make 2019 an epic year!!
Onto this month’s report!!
This is my second month blogging full time and it’s been an interesting month trying to get all the work done that I needed to because of the holidays.
What is a blog report?
This is where I show you all my reports on traffic, social media, posts, and income! I tell you what worked best, what flopped, and what I’ll be doing to change going into the next month!
Pretty much just what you think they are!
Many bloggers put together posts that go over in detail how their blog is doing for the past month, quarter, or year. Many of these include monetary blog income, goals, site stats, what worked and what didn’t.
WHY DO I POST BLOG REPORTS?
There is so much to learn from other people’s reports.
I simply want to contribute to that big learning funnel! Not only that I want you to know that I’m honest with you! This offers a way to be transparent not to mention these reports tell you 6 things:
1. Know that the dream of blogging as a career is a real one!
2. Great access to see what is working for another blogger.
3. It’s a way to track progress.
4. Encouragement that we’re potentially in the same boat and I’m working hard to show you some solutions for your blogging problems.
5. To be transparent with you! This business won’t work for anyone if you think that I’m making it all up!
6. Show you that growth is always possible and if I can do it than by all means you can do it! I’m not super special or tech savvy at ALL!
USER’S, SESSIONS, AND PAGEVIEWS – UP!!
December’s users – 473 +229
November’s sessions – 299
December’s sessions 533 +234
November’s pageviews – 651
December’s pageviews – 807 +156
BLOGGING INCOME – $0
In December, I had wanted to make $100 but this was not succeeded.
I’m not incredibly surprised by this because I have a small number of revenue streams at the moment and I’ve been focusing on quality posts and engagement.
EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS – UP!
5 more joined this month! I didn’t have as much time to add more freebies like I had been hoping to do.
Began with 194, now we’re up to 228! +34!
Followers – 194 + 34
That’s 212!! Woo!
I spent a lot more time on focusing what hashtags I used this month. I began checking to see how many times a hashtag had been used. If it was used more than a million, I won’t use that hashtag. This helped make sure that my post was more likely to be seen in other people’s feeds.
TWITTER & FACEBOOK – UP!
I just started to use these platforms for my blog so any growth seen is brand new.
I don’t think that anyone starting out with a blog should try to juggle all three major social media channels but it is a good idea to at least have them at your disposal to have more ways to connect with your readers.
Now I’ve never spent anytime on these platforms before this blog so if you have any suggestions or other posts that give good advice, let me know!!
PINTEREST – UP!
November’s people reached – 178,000
December’s people reached – 948,000 + 770,000 (this really amazes me!!)
Followers – 212
I started out with 172 +40 more!
Tailwind is the most awesome thing ever!!
This is the reason that my Pinterest did so well in December.
If you’re not familiar with Tailwind, it’s a scheduler that is the only one accredited by Pinterest (meaning they’re partners and Pinterest won’t get mad at you for using them instead of pinning directly within the website.)
I totally attribute my success with my Pinterest this month to Tailwind! Not only did I only spend a couple getting my entire weeks worth of pinning done but also Tailwind makes sure that my pins are being seen at their most optimal times!
Not to mention all of their other great features including tribes, smart loop, and their new Instagram feature which I haven’t had the chance to utilize them yet! Click on my link for a $15 credit!!
Head on over to Tailwind, here.
Now thinking about how the difference between my Pinterest traffic and site traffic, these numbers give me the fire to figure out why my Pinterest “traffic” is so high but not my own traffic.
My initial thoughts are well, it’s my pins, titles, and where I’m pinning my pins I.E. my group boards.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR JANUARY?
It’s pretty easy but I want to see 500 all across the board!
Email Subscribers: 500
Pinterest Followers: 500
I mean you get my gist! I also want to see 500 traffic days! This is my goal!
HOW AM I GOING ACHIEVE THIS?
1 Social media engagement on all platforms
2 Consistent posting on the blog and on social media platform
3 Rebranding my pins
4 Focus on what boards my pins go onto
FIVE MONTHS IN…
Now that this is my fifth month blogging, two months as my full time choice! And here are 5 things that I’ve learned so far:
- OTHER BLOGGERS ARE NOT MY COMPETITION.
This sounds incredibly like an ego gone ary! But it’s not! What I mean by not my competition is to say that they are my community. There is certainly enough room for all of us on the web and since not a single one of us are the same that leaves plenty of room for friendship and really mentorships. We learn from each other and lift each other up, not tear each other down!
- THERE IS ALWAYS WORK TO DO.
I thought that working as a blogger full time would leave me feeling like I had a lot of free time on my hands but that is hardly the case! There is literally always something that needs to be done for building this blogging business and it’s usually something other than writing!
- I LEARN SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF WHILE TRYING TO PROVIDE YOU GREAT CONTENT!
I try so hard to make sure that you get more out of what I create but it seems that lately, I’ve been getting the better end of the deal (sorry!) Really though I’ve gotten to know myself so much in this month and it’s been fantastic and I just try to switch that around to be able to provide you will even more value!
- HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE A VISION.
You cannot do this whole blogger thing without a vision! And by that I mean a long-term vision. I quickly learned how easy it is to see my brand fall apart when I was thinking about the day or two in advance. I had no posts ready resulting in last minute posts that are not as up to par as they should be.
- IT IS A LONG-TERM GAME.
I’m sorry to admit that I thought that after a few months of blogging, that I would be at the top and be shaking my booty in delight. No that’s not how this works! It’s a slow and consistent journey! Prepare yourself for the long haul.
Thanks for sticking around to the end!!
There was a lot of info covered in this post! We went over what blog reports are, why I write them, my December’s numbers, January’s goals, and what I’ve learned from 5 months of blogging.
Seems like so much but I love reports! Before I started my own blog, I probably read a thousand reports! It just seemed so crazy that so many people turned their hobby into an income, created businesses, and have become HUGE influencers. Blogging isn’t just about being a personal dairy anymore! It’s a huge marketing corner, creative outlet, and bread-maker! Oh man…I’ve rambled but can you tell that I love blogging! It’s given me the freedom to make money as a writer, which I NEVER EVER thought possible!
EVER EVER thought possible!
