You’ve spent 2 days pouring your soul into a new blog post, writing, editing, creating graphics, re-editing, make new graphics! Phew! It can be so much sometimes! But you’ve done it! It’s finished and you’ve published your new post!
And you thought that the work was over?
Think again! A lot of people, myself included for a while thought that once you hit publish on a new blog post, then the work was done! And it’s time to start planning the next blog post, right? WRONG!!
For one thing, you don’t want to leave your post just high and dry like that! It deserves love and nurturing.
I’ve been blogging for a year now so my “what you do after publishing a blog post” checklist as been honed down to basically a science!
You have to make sure that you’re giving your new post the best chance at getting seen so that people will flock to your site and get the great advice that you’ve got!
If you haven’t started a blog yet, YOU MUST!! Right now! Just go and do it! You can have your blog set up in less than 15 minutes.
First thing you gotta do is get your hosting and there’s hardly a better hosting company than Siteground! I’ve used it since day one for this blog and the services are impeccable! Not too mention the customer service is sublime.
I had another blog with Bluehost, which is a super poplar hosting company, and I didn’t have too many problems with them but whenever I did have an issue with my blog, their customer service took days to get back to me!
When you’re trying to run your blog as a business, this is not good! If a problem rises up, you need to have help immediately! Siteground is great at getting back to me whenever I have a problem within a few hours. Just sayin LOL
Now getting back to the main point of this post!
There at least 6 things that you should do right after publishing a post!
1 // Review it again
For some reason the post always looks a different live on the site. Am I the only one who thinks so?
I hope not! But anyways, once you’ve published the post go to it like your a brand new reader and read the whole thing again! Top to bottom.
Make note of any errors or improvements and go fix them right away.
2 // Pin it
Seems obvious but when I was just starting out, I would pin my post just a few times and then leave it there. Bad blogger move!
It’s important when creating a new blog post to monitor how it’s doing on Pinterest.
So after you’ve published your new post, publish your first pin (Remember, every post should have a minimum of 3 graphics to pin!) to relevant boards and do the same with the other pins following the next few days. Then circle back to the first pin and see how it’s doing.
Is it doing well or does it seem like a flop?
Does it need a new design? Are the keywords doing well? Is it ready to be put onto other boards? Such as group boards?
Keep working on it till Pinterest loves the heck out of your pin and shows you pin with your new blog post everywhere on Pinterest!
3 // Share it and share it
“Teya, why are you telling me to share it when you just told me to pin it? Isn’t it the same thing?” No, my friend it is not! Pinterset should be treated like a search engine instead of a social media platform.
When I say share it! That means get social with it! Spread it all over Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and any others that you can think of. Social media is not a great place to get consistent traffic since most social media post have a short shelf life but it’s really important to get your face and new content out in front of your followers so that you can stay relevant!
Always make sure to check back and reply to comments, messages, or questions that might come up with your new post!
4 // Tell your subscribers about it
Never ever leave your subscribers out of the loop! They’re your lifeline! If anything happens to social media or Pinterest than your whole potential outreach is gone! Suddenly your site is run dry!
Subscribers are the only ones who you’ll still be able to reach!
On top of that, subscribers are special because they chose you! They opted to join your list and to continually hear from you! Because they believe that you have something to say.
So why wouldn’t you put together an email that goes out at least once a week telling them about whatever new content you have!
If you haven’t started your email list yet, I strongly recommend Mailerlite!
I’ve been with them since I started my blog! The service is impeccable!
It’s free up to 1,000 subscribers!
Free landing pages!
Tutorials on how to create the best emails!
And that’s just the start!
Seriously, go check them out! You’ll be losing out on SO MUCH if you don’t start growing your email list.
5 // Check older posts to see if this post would be a good fit to any of your other blog posts
Now that you’ve made another great post, it’s time to pair it with other great posts within your blog!
Not only will it get your new blog post in front of other people who are looking at other posts but it’s also creating backlinks to your new post!
This is huge for your relationship with Google! You’re basically telling Google that your new post is quality!
6 // Comment on other posts with genuine remarks
The last thing that you want to do is let other bloggers about your new post! One of the best ways to do that is to comment onto other bloggers posts of similar content!
This gets your post in front of other bloggers who will see it when they approve your comment and some comments will create even more backlinks!
Not too mention this is a great way to create connections with bloggers!
Connections lead to friendships which can lead to even more possibilities!
What do you do after publishing a new blog post? Is your routine similar to this one? Or is there something that I’ve totally missed?? Leave me a comment below letting me know if I’ve missed something or if there’s something here that you’ve been forgetting!
All the best,
